The world is an ever-increasing stressful place. We work hard, play hard, and study hard, then when it’s time to relax we still end up stressing ourselves out, sometimes even more than in our daily life. The most popular method of getting away from it all is to go on vacation. However, travelling alone can be expensive, dangerous, or difficult, or cause stress in a number of other ways. Travelling with others, be they friends or family, is also going to cause stress. Waiting for people, relying on people, having to take care of kids while appeasing one’s spouse, are all things we don’t need when we’re trying to wind down. Dealing with airports and hotels, while trying not to forget anything or get ripped off, are other common causes of worry. Using alcohol, smoking, or consuming some other substance is very much a short-term solution and the results will only cause more problems. Indeed, the only true way to get away from it all and wind down properly and naturally is to take part in some kind of meditation or other breathing and/or stretching exercise. Taking yourself to some kind of hidden retreat, like a yoga sanctuary, is a wonderful way to refresh your batteries, with long-lasting benefits. At such a retreat, anyone from absolute beginners to yoga experts can experience a multitude of yoga benefits to thoroughly improve their states of body and mind.
Yoga originated in what is now known as India, but it is now practised and taught all over the world. Those already experienced in yoga will already know and appreciate the wonderful benefits and probably practise yoga at home and work, rarely needing to escape to a retreat. For the rest of us, there is nothing to be afraid of, worry about or be shy about. In the best yoga retreats we are able to learn details about the different types of yoga and take part in
yoga workshops with others of the same level and experience. There is not always the need for fixed or specialized yoga lessons, as all people find that they learn yoga at different speeds and in different ways.
It is true to say that more women than men take part in yoga, but the recent trend is a balancing ratio. There is now far less stigma for a man who still wants to feel ‘manly’ to practice this art, or exercise, or whatever else they want to call it. It is not necessary to wear a leotard or other item of clothing that they may feel affects their perceived masculinity. Indeed, the statistics from any yoga sanctuary may surprise the reader to show which gender are the most proficient.
With so much stress spreading around the world, it is important for our own health, and that if those around us, that we find the time to properly wind down and reduce anxiety. Taking a week away from it all is a wonderful way to set us up for a return to the rat race, but with new techniques of dealing with it all.
